NEISA Sailors of the Week, Fall 2023, Weekend 10

New Orleans, LA - 11/20/23 - This week both our Open and Women's NEISA Sailors of the Week are from the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships hosted by Tulane University out of the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans, LA.

Nicholas Reeser '25 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy won the ICSA Open Singlehanded National Championship for the Glen S. Foster Trophy.  The 18-boat fleet showcased the best singlehanded sailors in college sailing in the ILCA 7.  14 races were sailed over two days in very choppy and light to moderate winds. Reeser was the most consistent sailor in the fleet with eight of his 14 races in the top 5.  He won the championship by 11 points over second place with 80 total points.  He is the first sailor from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to win the Glen S. Foster Trophy since Frederick "Butch" Minson in 1968.

The Brown Bears Katharine Doble '26 finished a close second at the ICSA Women's Singlehanded National Championship for the Janet Lutz Trophy and is this week's Women's Sailor of the Week. The sophomore came on strong in the 18-boat ILCA 6 fleet on the second day of the championship with all top 4 finishes to close out the last 6 races.  Just one point separated Doble from first place heading into the last race.  She finished with 77 points in 14 races and lost by 3 points to Ava Anderson '27 from Tulane.
