Open Sailors of the Week
The Connecticut College Camels winning team at the Sherman Hoyt Trophy are your NEISA Open Sailors of the Week. Sailing for the Camels were Henry Scholz ’27 with Vivian Smith ’27 in A Division and William Hurd ’27 with Charlotte McDonald ’29 in B Division. The duo of Scholz and Smith also claimed the A Division win in commanding fashion against the best open sailors NEISA has to offer, leading the division wire to wire from the first race. The Camels spent most of the event in a three way battle for the overall lead with Dartmouth and Yale. The Big Green took over the lead after race eight heading into the last set and looked like they might take the victory but the Camels came charging back. The B Division duo of Hurd and McDonald managed to beat their Dartmouth counterpart in both of the last two races including by one point in the final race of the regatta, which proved to be enough to force a tie and maintain the head-to-head tiebreaker to claim the 2026 edition of the Sherman Hoyt Trophy in dramatic fashion! Hurd and McDonald also took 3rd place in their division, just four points behind the divisional winners!
