Sailors of the Week, Weekend 6, Fall 2014


***Barrows, Landy, and Isler are named the NEISA COED SAILORS OF THE WEEK***

Newport, RI —  10/12/14 Ian Barrows '17, Graham Landy ’15, and Marly Isler ‘16 of Yale are named the NEISA Coed Sailors of the Week after winning the NEISA Match Racing Championship for the Larry White Trophy, hosted by Salve Regina University in Ynglings.  After a difficult 1-6 round robin result on the first day, the trio was unstoppable on day two.  They beat #1 seeded Roger Williams and #3 seeded Dartmouth to reach the finals, beating the Boston College Eagles to cap off an amazing comeback.  The victory qualified the Bulldogs for the College Sailing Match Racing National Championship, to be sailed November 14-16 in Oyster Bay, New York.   

***Reineke and Barnard are named the NEISA WOMEN’S SAILORS OF THE WEEK***

Annapolis, MD —  10/12/14 Erika Reineke '16 and Elizabeth Barnard '15 of Boston College are named the NEISA Women’s Sailors of the Week after their impressive performance in winning A-division at the Navy Fall Women’s Trophy.  Reineke and Barnard finished in the top five in eight of the 15 races and accumulated 81 points.  They won A-division in a wide range of conditions including winds between 4 and 15 knots, lots of current, heavy rain at times, and extremely shifty and puffy conditions.  Their performance led Boston College to fourth overall in the 18-team event.

Around the conference—

Congratulations to Yale and Boston College on finishing first and second respectively at the NEISA Match Racing Championship at Salve Regina and qualifying for the College Sailing Match Racing National Championship on November 14-16 in Oyster Bay, NY.  Boston College was the top NEISA team at Navy Fall Women’s, finishing 4th overall in the three-division event.  NEISA teams finished top five at the Moody Trophy hosted by URI with Roger Williams taking the win followed by Dartmouth, Yale, Boston College, and Brown.   The Bowdoin Polar Bears won the 14-team Barnett Trophy on their home waters.  The Roger Williams Hawks won the 17-team Roger Williams Invite.   Tufts won the Protest Trophy hosted by Bates College and Connecticut College won the Women’s Weekday Invite hosted by Coast Guard.
